The Tropics on the Cheap

more living
While browsing this summer's Pottery Barn catalog, my eye caught the aloha collection. They offer beach towels, bedspreads, prints and accessories all in the vein of vintage tropical decor. Instead of grabbing the keys and heading to my nearest mall, I tried to piece together my own collection of stuff for outdoor entertaining this summer.
I started with eBay and found an abundance of tropical trinkets from Hawaii and Florida.
I also raided my mother's and grandmother's garage and found the motherload. They had several drink and food trays, as well as coasters, mugs and linens, most of which sport a destination map of the sunshine state. Since it's more kitch than couture, they were both more than happy to have me take the old junk off their hands.
Between my family's hand-me-downs and a trip to iparty, I ended up with serving trays, coasters, and other goodies to dress up my next bbq party. I also added my potted pineapple top and a bowl full of lilies (since I don't have orchids or hibiscus) to the table.
Here's my shopping list:
From iParty:
tiki coasters
drink umbrellas
hula girl swizzle sticks
From eBay:
